DOSbox in Linux will run Lotus 1-2-3 version 2.x same as it does in Win8/10. Same should be true for Linux, but I've not tried SmartSuite in Linux yet. So, just reinstall AFTER changing the OS. So even MSFT's own Compatibility Advisor claims they won't run, but the truth is the installer won't run if these programs are on at the time.

Part of the misinformation is that you cannot change the OS while these programs are installed, but you can only install them after the new OS is installed. However, it was true that IBM claimed Smartsuite and DOS Lotus 1-2-3 wouldn't run on Windows 7. As for Smart Suite, it runs fine in 8 and 10. I do have newly-acquired Win7 64-bit, but if the Lotus won't install I'll just use DOSbox, which makes the DOS version run in 32-bit Win8 and 8.1, and 64-bit Win10. I don't use Windows 7 Home, so I don't know about its compatibility there.
